Students run Dining Hall at Ole Miss

By Jon Haywood & Norman Seawright

On Sorority Row stands one of Ole Miss’s hidden gems, Lenoir Dining Hall, run by students.

Lenoir Dining gives senior hospitality management majors some real-world experience.

“Our students seem to say it’s very successful in preparing them for what the food service industry is going to be like, into the real world, ” Kathy Knight, interim dean of hospitality management said.

Students learn to effectively manage a restaurant in this unique classroom setting.

“It keeps you very busy and the time goes by really quickly. When I first found out I was having this long of a class, I kind of freaked out, but you’re working the whole time, so you don’t notice it. It’s really hectic at first since we’re all not used to it,” Katie Manor, senior hospitality management major said .

The dining hall gives students the opportunity to sharpen their skills.

“It’s very fast paced and you have to figure out the steps that you do wrong. You learn from those mistakes,” Jamie O’Dea, senior hospitality management major said.

Lenoir Dining is open on Tuesdays and Thursday for lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and for dinner from 5 to 7 p.m.
