Tuition Hike at Ole Miss Is a Numbers Crunch

By now Ole Miss students are familiar with plans for a tuition increase. The approval comes from the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning in response to state budget cuts.

Students at Ole Miss will see a 6.5 percent increase in tuition for the 2010-2011 school year alone and potentially another 6.5 percent increase for the following year.

IT COMES DOWN TO THE NUMBERS

IHL says that all of  Mississippi’s eight public universities will see tuition increases each year for the next couple of years.

Vice Chancellor of Administration and Finance Larry Sparks said, “We tried to keep (the tuition increases) as limited as we could.”

Here’s what students may end up spending.

In-state:                                                                Out-of-state:

 -’07-’08= $4,932                                              -’07-’08= $11,436

 -’08-’09= $5,107                                               -’08-’09= $12,466
