Big Weekend For Rebels Soccer

The Ole Miss women’s soccer team has started the year 7-2 and 1-0 in the SEC.  They have a big weekend coming up with two top 10 teams coming into town.

The Florida Gators (2-0, 8-3)  are ranked #8 and the South Carolina Gamecocks (2-0, 11-0) are ranked #9.  Both teams will be coming to Oxford, Miss. this weekend to face off against the Ole Miss Rebels (1-0, 7-2).

Senior Midfielder Mallory Coleman is trying to lead the team back to the NCAA tournament for the first time since Coach Steve Holeman’s team made a first round exit in 2005.

“Coming into SEC I don’t think there is a team on our schedule that we can’t beat,” Coleman said.

Coleman is one of three seniors on the team this year, along with Hannah Weatherly and Danielle Johnson.  They have been given the tough order of leading the youngest team in the SEC.

“We had a little bit of concern obviously, we knew we were going to be very young,” Holeman said.  “The comfort [lay] in our three senior captains.  We knew we were going to have good leadership, and we obviously knew it was going to take good leadership, with such a young team.”

Coleman and the Rebels hope they are headed down the right track to return to the NCAA tournament.  The Rebels go on the road for their next four matches before returning home for a three game stretch to wrap up the season.
